Chelsea Flower Show 2013 Top 3 Gardens

Sep 24

My first press visit to Chelsea Flower Show was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I was able to get a great look at all the gardens and stands and I could really appreciate all the finer details.

My personal favourites and top 3 gardens are the SeeAbility Garden, Bluewater Roof Garden and Brewin Dolphin Garden.

I particularly liked the SeeAbility Garden for its hard landscaping, with the wooden curved screens and ball bearing panels providing a modern feel and adding great contrast to the planting. The detailing of the slate pathway (laid edge up) is extremely effective; especially the way it leads your eye into the central feature tree.

The Bluewater Roofgarden has a number of features that work well. Circular elements consisting of concrete planters, a water feature and a decking area contrast with the disjointed decking and industrial metal grate pathways. The water ties all this together. On the wall tubes are planted to create a living wall section which resembles the honeycomb pattern of a beehive.

What I like about the Brewin Dolphin Garden is the crisp and modernist design. The different zones created within the garden and the contrast created between these areas with the use of planting and hard landscaping is very effective. I love the pergola, fence and giant pebbles.
